Miniature Mooncakes for Mid-Autumn

Tomorrow is mid-autumn festival! In Singapore, we celebrate by eating mooncakes. During this month, you'll find hotels, restaurants and bakery shops selling mooncakes. Even Starbucks and Haagen-Dazs carry their own series of mooncakes. I personally prefer those sold by hotels as they taste good and the packaging is usually more attractive. In this case, I do judge a book by its cover...

This was a special request from a sweet customer (she is an old-time acquaintance - my very first local customer!). I was initially worried about doing the sliced pieces as they looked too much of a challenge. But I did it!!! It took me a lot of time but I am really happy with the results.

The yellow one is durian. The green one is traditional pandan with yolk. The pink one is strawberry with jam filling (I don't think I will like the taste in real life). The purple one is raspberry truffle (also too adventurous for me).

I'm off to eat some real mooncakes now. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

Rainbow Cake in Quarter Scale

Sorry for the lack of post. I have been busy with some commissions lately and I've not completed them! I should be able to provide an update on these exciting projects next week.

As some of you may already know, I occasionally love to work with quarter scale or 1:48 items (4 times smaller than the typical 1:12 scale). Being obsessed with rainbow cakes, I decided to make one in 1:48 scale. The cake measures about 0.25 inch in diameter. It's a challenge getting the layers but I'm really so happy with the output. ^_^

By the way, it's so quiet on Flickr. Wonder what are the more popular photo sites these days? Tumblr? Pinterest? I haven't had time to find out how these websites work!
